Travel Vaccinations

Non-urgent advice: Travel Vaccinations

For patients registered at Abbey Medical Centre, we offer a limited but high quality travel vaccination and advice service which includes NHS provided vaccines.

We can offer Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, Diphtheria and polio, and MMR vaccines – these vaccinations are FREE on the NHS.

We are NOT able to offer Rabies, Japanese encephalitis, Meningitis ACWY or Hepatitis B at our practice. You will have to seek these from a private vaccination service.

If you wish to access advice for travel please complete the form below and email or drop it into the practice at least 6 weeks before you are due to travel. The nurse will determine which vaccines you need and then then text you to ask you to make an appointment if you are not up to date with the vaccinations we can give in General Practice. (please allow 2-4weeks for this service)

You can find more information here to look at the countries you are visiting and think about the risks involved in foreign travel:

It is important to complete this form in as early as possible – at least 6 weeks before you travel – as 2 appointments will be required with the practice nurse, a telephone consultation and then a face to face appointment to actually receive the vaccinations and be given the relevant health advice. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your face to face appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work. Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
